While doing my morning reading of news I stumbled across Google’s “Factory Tour of Search” on TechCrunch. It turns out that Google released their Health application today. It has been known for a pretty substantial amount of time that Google has been working on this.
Google Health allow’s people to have greater control over their medical records. It also allow’s people to see their medical records whenever they want and if they want they can add “applications” to their profile. An example that they gave of an application was one that was a Heart Attack Risk Calculator.
All of this is pretty interesting for me but I have yet to try this out and I probably won’t for some time. My main question is security, what if someone gain’s access to my google account via a keylogger on a public computer (I rarely use public computers but what if). Google’s reaponse to a question about security was
“it labels just who and how information has been changed. It has also put in place different authorization levels that prevents certain people from changing certain things.”
Maybe it is just me but if I am putting my medical records online I would like to have the choice to use another form of authorization. Possibly something like a Security Key that paypal offers for a fee. Then I would feel a little bit more secure and more open to putting my medical records on Google Health.
It’s going to be interesting to see who uses this. Is it going to be just Tech Savvy people or everyday internet users?
