I finally decided to get my hair cut. Well I got it cut about 2 months ago, so it’s not that long. Anway I have full bars of 3G here. Wow that is pretty rare, the freeway is pretty close to me though. So I decided to run a speed test and it actually came out pretty well for once. Check out the attached image below. I usually tend to get 800kbit to 1 Mbps download.

It seems like 3G speed is really dependant on signal strength. Where as on edge I can only have 3 bars and the speed is relatively the same as 4-5 bars. 3G also seems to drop out a lot more than edge. I’ll be on a call with 2 3G bars and it’ll drop down to edge. It sucks when your on a call and browsing the web. Funny thing is once you end the call 3G comes back most of the time. So this is either due to the cell network, the iPhone’s hardware, or the software on the phone. The one thing to hope for would for it to be the software since you can update it.

There is some other iPhone network things I would like to talk about in a future post. These would deal with wifi speeds.

I actually did not forget and I wouldn’t have but “I forgot” is not really an excuse not to vote. Ok well maybe if you are out of the country but even then you could have done it a while ago.

Something I wanted to mention was with all of these propositions and tax things to vote on. Bond’s might sound great but the state will need to pay back that interest down the road. So 9.95 billion dollars for a high speed train from los angles to San francisco might sound cool but you can almost double that amount to get the actual cost with interest.

Now when it comes to states spending money. You can only get 1$ of services from 1$ paid in taxes. Money doesn’t grow on trees. If it did people would still be poor. It’s called inflation. You would be paying 500$ for that loaf of bread insted of 3$. I guess my biggest thing is without raising taxes you can’t expect to get many more services. Yes you can get rid of the overhead and get some money back. Doing both however would lead to more income for the governement and lead to possibly better government programs out there.

So you should vote. Check out smartvoter if you have questions about stuff.

Note: I typed this on my iPhone and I don’t know a lot about the wordpress app so I couldn’t do links.

So a few days ago I was brainstorming ideas for projects to create. I got to thinking about artificial intelligence and from there the English language. So I started to think about how we ask questions. Where are you going tonight? All we need to look at is where you going tonight. Where implies a question so we know we need to respond. You is who we are wondering about, in this case the AI. Going and time let the AI know what to respond with. Another example would be what kind if art do you like? All we need to look at is what art you like.

I think that doing these this sort of way would lead to more accurate responses from AI. Insted of looking for the sentence to fit something you are looking more at the structure of sentences. If someone has used correct grammer but forgot the ? At the end then they still get the correct answer.

Anywy there are a few other things I have thought of relating to this but what I talked about was only a few minutes if thinking. Maybe in the future I’ll put some thought into actually programing something like this.

So, after some late night Dr. Phill show viewing people’s addiction to games amazes me. You could question my game playing and say oh well you play a lot. Well I have a few responses to that. First is that I am not married and I do not have kids. If I were married I would love spending time with my wife and if we had kids I would love being with them. Second, I play games with friends. These are people that are friends outside of the game, in most cases I have gone to school with them or met them through other friends. Ok well that is me attempting to defend my position, make of it what you want.

So I’m watching this Dr. Phill and this guy is addicted to world of Warcraft. He doesn’t have a job and spends over ten hours a say playing games. Oh did I mention that he is married with kids? He also got his 5 year old son into playing. Whaaaaat?????? That is really all I have to say.

The episode was pretty interesting. Maybe there is information on http://drphil.com

As some of you may know I recently went from windows xp to vista. Well after a few weeks I went back to xp. It isn’t that vista is “bad” it had more to do with applications and drivers.

First let me start off with drivers. Vista ran fine without upgrading drivers, well the performance was not there without upgrading drivers. My biggest problem with drivers, specifically raid drivers. It took me three installs to get nvraid drivers working in vista. I would get a BSOD after the first reboot. I have no idea how I got them working, but I think that I used a older driver. The other driver problem I ran into was with my Nforce network card. It is a 10/100/1000 card and is on a 1gbps network yet it would only run at 100mbit. The driver settings did not have a 1000 setting either, something that I can do in xp.

My second issue was applications, to be specific it was not microsoft applications. The really only application problem I encountered was with Flash. It ran like crap in vista, where as on the exact same machine in xp it runs fine. For some reason it decided to be all laggy and freeze up which lead to firefox crashing all of the time.

Those were my main issues with vista, none of which were microsoft ones. I do think some of the microsoft stuff is annoying, UAC should have settings where you can specify what needs you to click continue. Hopefully these things will get sorted out soon and more people will move to vista, but xp runs really well on most machines.

In case anyone was wondering I used nlite to slipstream sp3, applications, drivers, and tweaks into my new xp install.

It’s that time again, fall classes. Oh yes what an awesome time, NOT. What makes it not awesome is books. They are so expensive. I have to take this Trigonometry class before I can take Calculus 1 and the book is $117 used! Used for $117 that’s ridiculous. My computer science professor publishes his own book, which I assume he changes every semester as you cant get it used. That one is $57 and it is probably just a big lab book. The other books are pretty expensive also, luckily my biology class is online and my professor doesn’t require us to get a specific book. Currently I’m going to community college and the price of books is about how much I pay for tuition. Just thought I would add in that I am not on any financial aid so I am paying the actual cost of the classes and books. At least we have community colleges in my state, its nice. But books are way to expensive, it is going to cost me 350-400$ for all of my books this semester.

Wow I cant even believe that it has been one month since I wrote something. Thats like YEARS in internet time. I haven’t twittered in a while either, twitter is great for news but I don’t think people want to know what I am doing. Summer classes finished, and now it is back to fall classes and im taking 17.5 units. Turned in my two weeks notice at my job, I just got a new job that I will like a lot better. Done a bunch of work to my car, its so cool now. Installed Windows Vista and ran into some issues, reinstalled without nvraid and its better. My EVGA 8600GT 512MB GDDR3 is rocking out vista like a champ, I don’t notice any slow downs and games are great. Oh did a mention it can run Folding@home and it can do physx now? yeah its wicked. Anyway I’m off for now, ooh check out photosynth, its awesome.

As Facebook users noticed, yesterday the new design was launched. While it does look better than the design I remember looking at a month or so ago I still don’t like it that much. But don’t get me wrong there are things that I do like about the new design but I think some of the useful ness of the old design was lost.

The one thing that I do like is the new home page, It fit’s my browser window a lot better. Since it is wider information isn’t as small as it used to be. Overall this look is better than the previous home page. Photos, I also think they did a good job with these, maybe I just like the little page flipping that it does when you click next.

Now to the Profile, I don’t like how the wall is also part of the feed. It makes things confusing to me, at least when im trying to see how friends are doing. I liked it seperate so if I wanted to see what other people were saying I could just scroll down to the wall. Oh and if you want to check out your friends info you have to click the info tab, its not right on the main page anymore. It seems like this design is more of twitter / friendfeed, the status update box even says What are you doing right now?

My biggest annoyance, not going to get into app development in this post, is not being able to see what apps your friends have installed right under their picture. That made it really easy to see what apps friends were using and to get to them quickly. Now you have to go to boxes and find the app you are looking for.

I have only used the new Facebook design for a few minutes so there are probably more things that I would like about it and more that I dislike.

My question was should I use vista over xp?
